I have from a very early age been interested in the Theatre, especially
acting in plays, and latterly here in Holland for many years I did quite a lot
of English-speaking theatre, often in lead or co-lead roles with another
actress over here with whom I have worked a great deal. In fact, in addition
to becoming one of the best friends I could have asked for, she has also
taken part in modelling for some of my photography portrait series and we also
worked together on our first video production. She has also voiced and
modelled for my ATV video series (see my 'radio' pages).
There more than 20 pictures here, not nearly enough to illustrate all of the
plays I have been in, even over here in Holland, but nevertheless if you feel
you're not interested just scroll down further......
It all started with a Christmas farce at school in 1969,
which you can see below:-
Then was another school play, 'Simple Spyman', in which I played Colonel Grey-Balding, here on the sofa with someone, in 1970:-
The next one is of me playing Beckett, in the Easter of 1970
In summer we put on Shakespears' A Midsummer Nights' Dream, and I played
'Puck', here on the right:-
Later, there was a Tunbridge Wells 'Pantiles Pageant' where I co-acted as
Master of Ceremonies with the Miss Tunbridge Wells at that time, seen here:-
Then, to skip a few plays in the U.K. including classics such as Charlies'
Aunt, etc., and some others I was involved in here, here I am in 'Little Boxes'
playing the character Trevor who is a gay fellow picked up by two lesbians
who want to show their parents their 'boyfriend' when they visit:-
At one time over here, we did a performance of Under Milk Wood, and an audio excerpt is available here from one of our rehearsals.
It should be remembered that the whole rehearsal, setup and preparation for
any production is a very busy time and a lot of work indeed:
In 1986 I played 'Percy', a 42-year-old man who still lived with his mother
and who goes down to London once a year for the football 'with the lads'.
He's bet that he can't find a girl, and he ends up finding a prostitute...
This was 'Rattle of a Simple Man' by Charles Dyer, just about a two-hander
and here are a few of the photos of that:-
Here is a very short video excerpt from that play: poor
Percy has decided that it's time for him to go, but Cyrene has some of his
things, his football rattle and his club scarf, which he wants back of course...
(click on this to view it) Boy oh boy, the poor old man just doesn't
know where to look!
Now he's near that bed... 'My goodness, you'd get backache in there trying
to sleep'!
We got good write-ups in the newspapers then for this one.
Also in 1986, we were in 'Blithe Spirit', another classic, where my deceased
wife (she's all in green) comes back to haunt me after I've married my second
(alive) wife!
Charles had no idea what to do about his first wife [deceased] being around here:
And all the time she made sure she was noticed by me to the annoyance of my 2nd
wife...
Taking advantage of my house, even when the 'medium' Madame Arcati tried to
rid me of her...
We have also performed a number of 'Victorian Evenings' - essentially Victorian
music-hall entertainment with both singing and sketches, and here (again in 1986,
that was a very busy year for me!) are a couple of shots from these:-
Different characters in each sketch on every nights' performance...
In 1987 we did 'After the Ball is Over', in which - true to my own character -
I played the perfectly moral and upstanding character of the Butler, helping
the lady of the house:-
...and of course preventing any crimes or stealing that might take place...
Then there was The Browning Version, and of course Harlequinade...
I was also part of a Victorian Evening which I was actually paid for doing,
in Amsterdam which we called 'An Act for Business', the idea being that it
provided some entertainment for visiting business folks at that time:-
...and here I am as the all-American con-man, having just been conned himself
out of some ground where oil was struck...
and finally as an artist, with his models (his favourite dressed only in her red
dressing-gown of course!):-
Thats all for now, folks!
